Selection of a Problem

The Research problem undertaken for the study must be carefully selected the task is a difficult one, although it may not appear to this. Therefore, a researcher can ask a guide for assistance in this area. The research problem, however, cannot be borrowed. A problem must develop in the researcher's head as a plant does from its seed. A research guide can only assist in the subject selection process.

The following points may be observed by the researcher in selecting a research problem.

  1. Avoid choosing a topic that has been widely covered.
  2. Avoid taking controversial subjects.
  3. Problems with being excessively narrow or wide should be avoided.
  4. The study topic should be understandable and practical.
  5. The topic should fit inside the time allotted.
  6. The topic should fit within our feasible price range.
